Show Me Shorts Film Festival provides a pathway for local short film makers to qualify for the Academy Awards®. This film festival shares top local and international short films in cinemas across New Zealand each year.
What does that mean?
As an Oscar®-qualifying festival, the winner of the top two awards (Lightbox Best Film and Best International Film) become eligible to enter the Academy Awards®.
How long is a short film?
Short films entered into Show Me Shorts can be from New Zealand or anywhere in the world, but must be between 2-20 minutes long and made within the last two years. New Zealand music videos can also qualify for selection if they are between 1-10 minutes long.
Festival Director Gina Dellabarca says:
“We are proud to present our selection of world-class shorts to the New Zealand public each November. Show Me Shorts is the most internationally prestigious short film festival in New Zealand and our programme reflects that.
We are looking for the top short films from here and overseas. That doesn’t mean beginners shouldn’t enter, it just means the films we select demonstrate a high level of storytelling and/or filmmaking craft.”
